Why Costa Rica

A change of pace

After building four successful projects in Davis County, Utah, the three of us, Spencer, Kincaid, and Seth, made the decision to move our families to Costa Rica. It wasn’t just about starting another development. It was about creating a different pace of life for ourselves and our children. We wanted to build in a place where community, nature, and family are part of everyday life. Living here gives us the opportunity to be deeply involved in every aspect of the project while creating the kind of environment we believe more people are looking for, a place that values connection, simplicity, and time well spent.

Black Coast

When we moved to Costa Rica, one thing became clear in almost every community we visited: there was a significant gap in the market. Many developments lacked thoughtful planning, quality infrastructure, and reliable long-term management. At the other end of the spectrum were world-class brands like Four Seasons and St. Regis, offering an incredible experience but at a price point out of reach for most families.

We saw an opportunity to create something in between: a thoughtfully designed community with lasting infrastructure, strong long-term management, and a high-end experience without the branded-residence price tag. That’s why we built Black Coast: to bridge that gap and create a place where owners feel proud of their home, well cared for, and confident in their investment for decades to come.
